1973/74 Les Paul Custom in rare Cherry Finish.
Stunning condition for 43 years old and complete with its original case.
The condition of this Custom is simply fantastic, the odd ding here and there and a some very light buckle rash, but honestly this is one of the nicest we’ve came across in recent years.
The Cherry finish was only produced between 71 until around 75 and in our humble opinion was one of the most beautiful finishes Gibson ever did. The pictures just don’t do this guitar justice, Original in every way with the distinctive Klusun waffelback tuners, 70’s neck volute and Gibson Logo. The epitome of the pancake era Les Paul’s, fantastic figured top with the amazing patina.
The binding has no visible shrinkage and is just in fantastic condition.
The fretboard has had a great fret job at some point in the past and the guy doing the work has been a master. Amazing job, no wear to the ebony board with fantastically finished Jumbo frets.
Great inlays and brilliant mother of Pearl in the headstock.
The headstock itself is in great condition and has managed to escape the more normal dings to the top edge and the binding.
Story has it, that the guitar was originally owned by a minister who was more used to playing acoustic, He tried playing electric for a while but never quite took to it and then left it in its case for most of its early life, before being liberated by the last owners.
A previous owner has probably hung and admired her at some point as it has the usual rather distinctive discolouration marks on the lacquer at the nut from sitting on a wall hanger.
Action is low and sweet and just demands you play to more. Standard weight for a custom and quite a departure form the modern weight relieved models. Real Les Paul’s have a bit of weight to them, this one is no exception and is just right. All electrics are in great condition and in perfect playing order.
Early 70s T top pickups in the customs generally have a great vintage sound, and this is no exception.
Gentle smooth lows to massive grungy highs, simply a class custom.
